Sprout and Blossom is a team of birth workers that believe in reproductive justice and a birthing person’s right to make decisions about their own bodies. The birth work that we do is inseparable from reproductive justice work.

Generally speaking, reproductive justice is:

• The right to have children

• The right to not have children

• The right to care for children in a safe and healthy environment

We believe it also means:

• Affordable and inclusive access to safe and empowered prenatal, birth, and postnatal care

• Accurate, accessible, non-fear-based information and education about pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, childbirth, lactation, newborn care, infant sleep, and mental health

• Autonomy to choose where and how to give birth, and who is present with you

• Access to compassionate, evidence-based, birthing-person-centered care teams that provide continuity of care through the childbearing years

• Universal and affordable access to quality, individualized health care

• Paid parental leave (for at least 6 months, which is how long WHO recommends exclusive breast/chestfeeding)

• Affordable childcare when one chooses to go back to work

• Access to nutritious food during pregnancy and postpartum, access to formula and nutritious food for children

• Dismantling white-supremacist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, and abusive religious systems of oppression

• That all people have social, political, and economic decision-making power over their own lives
