In the News! Our doula Brianna talks to WOOD TV 8 about the Birth Equity Fund.
TOMORROW is the first day of Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17, 2024).
Disparities between BIPOC and white maternal and infant health in the US are despicable. “Researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago found that Black women face a 70% higher risk of SMM (severe maternal morbidity) than any other racial group….There’s evidence to suggest that working with a doula can reduce serious complications among BIPOC [birthing people]. Research finds that doula care can help reduce C-sections, decrease maternal anxiety and depression, and help coordinate care and communication between [people] of color and their other healthcare providers.”
We are working hard to increase access to doula care for BIPOC families with our Birth Equity Fund. So far, thanks to our community’s generous donations to our fund, we have served 11 families and counting.
Bri, a doula on our team, shares about our work in her interview with WOOD TV 8.
